Microsoft and Lionhead Studios appear to be taking a new approach to the idea of episodic gaming.
The main idea of episodic gaming is the concept of cheaper to produce, shorter, more frequently released games as opposed to fewer, more spread out, more expensive games.
They are changing the idea by taking a pre-existing game (Fable 2), breaking it up into downloadable "episodes", and releasing the first for free on Xbox Live marketplace.
I don't know how how much each of the remaining four episodes will cost, but considering the MSRP for Fable 2 is down to $29.99 I'd be willing to put money on the odds of each costing 600 MS Points ($7.50). |

Media sharing between my PC and Xbox 360 is working again all of a sudden. No idea why, but I'm not complaining.
Edit: Come to think of it, I haven't tried using it since getting my new router..... |

http://www.gamereproductions.com is a business that creates custom built NES, SNES, and Genesis cartridges using roms of games unreleased in the USA. They are completely functional on the original hardware, and from the look of some of the screenshots, look really professional. Some are actually less expensive than I'd expect for custom work, such as Earthbound Zero which is only $29 including shipping. They also have Sweet Home.
Also, for those in the area. The mall has a new shop called 3D Games that carries both old and new games and systems, including 3rd party controllers for old systems and new retro combination systems like the Retro Duo and the one that plays both NES and Genesis cartridges. |

Clearly the powers that be do not want me to get my sort-of-annual old school RPG fix. I left my DS out last night and I found Isaac with it this morning and he'd started a new game on Retro Game Challenge, erasing my save data along with the 15 or so hours of progress I'd made into Guadia Quest. I'm probably going to put it up for now and and finish New Super Mario Bros. before going back to it. |

| | annoyed | ] | All the buzz around Dragon Quest 9 last week made me finally blow the dust off my PS2 and toss in DQ8, which I've had forever but never got around to playing. I got about four hours in, went to save and noticed my old save file had corrupted. I saved on two slots to be safe, next time I played I had one good and one corrupt, once again, I deleted the corrupt save and saved on two files. Next time I played I had two corrupt saves, none good. Fuck.
My memory card has a block of corrupt data on it I can't delete (which had always solved such problems in the past). Looking for a solution online turned up two possibilities.
1. 3rd party software that can reformat the entire card, which requires my PS2 to be able to run homebrew software, so that option is out.
2. The memory card is fucked, buy another. Luckily I have another, but Katie has it....
Also luckily, I was only about 4 hours into the game.... |

The Japanese have so much more entertaining commercials than we do here in the States. |

Retro Game Challenge is awesome. It really is like a glimpse at a second childhood in the 80's and probably contains some of the best original NES games that were never made. It is a retro collection with an overall story about you being transported back in time to the 80s as a kid and having to complete a series of challenges on old 8-bit games (think Xbox 360 or Steam achievements). All the games were made from scratch specifically for this collection and they are GREAT (except the racing ones, I couldn't get into those).
Buy it.
There is a second game out in Japan, but the first one is selling so poorly here we'll probably never see it stateside, which is a damn shame, because I WANTS IT! |

I got a new phone, it's an LG Vu. It was the fanciest of the free when I went to Best Buy to renew my contract. I still disapprove of phones that brag multimedia capabilities as key features but require you to use their inferior proprietary headphones rather than giving me a real mini-stereo jack. They at least had the decency to include a set rather than making me buy them extra though but I still can't use it in my car with my cassette adapter which is where I primarily listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks. |

[11:54] RevisedCoho: Zicam = fake homeopathy = fake fake medicine. Think about that for a minute, and then become homicidal.
[11:59] Lord Schezar: beg pardon?
[12:00] RevisedCoho: who is this?
[12:00] Lord Schezar: I think we may have been salmoned [12:00] Lord Schezar: did you just update your LJ? [12:01] Lord Schezar: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=salmoned
[12:01] RevisedCoho: who is this???
[12:02] Lord Schezar: not someone you know, read the link, it's an internet prank that links two people on AIM at random with a cryptic weird message [12:02] Lord Schezar: I read about this, happened to a friend of mine
[12:03] RevisedCoho: so u found me? wtf? buh bye now.
[12:03] Lord Schezar: no, I didn't do this [12:04] Lord Schezar: it's a prank someone is pulling on us
[12:04] RevisedCoho: i dont know u. so how can some1 pull a prank?
[12:05] Lord Schezar: I read about this, you've got your AIM account name on your LJ account or whatever, a computer picks that up and does this at random, it's a program someone made as a prank [12:09] Lord Schezar: "Salmoned An internet phenomena where a computer links two people over IM - and gives each user false It's similar to a three way call using AIM. Imagine someone mutes his own phone and then calls you. Then he calls someone else. Now you're talking to a stranger. Your phone rang and so did theirs. You think he called you and vice versa. Neither of you realize there's a third person instigating all this. This is basically the same thing, but with AIM. " [12:09] Lord Schezar: from that link [12:09] Lord Schezar: I'll leave you alone if you want, just wanted to make sure you knew what happened in case it happened again |
